Public Workshop: Lugar, memorias y mitologías

Guide by Sonte'nish Myers

Western storytelling logic often operates within a binary of the real vs not-real. And the English language definitions we use (“fantasy”, “magical realism”, “speculative fiction) etc. can be seen as expressions of that binary as well. Whereas in other cultures, the spirit world and mortal world overlap, and the stories we tell and our use of language express the “inexplicable” and are in constant, normalized relation with the spirit and natural world where trees may talk, the dead may visit you, or you turn into a fish during an afternoon swim. "Creación de historias"

This participatory workshop invites storytellers across mediums to enter “the cave of one’s self”. Through creative prompts and exercises, we practice magical realistic storytelling and explore the ways our personal narratives, folktales, ancestral memories and places are a wellspring for those stories.

Together we will share and recall the “inexplicable things” and express them intuitively in our chosen medium.
